Report:

The Mifgash Project, titled “Żydowskie Pisarki i ich Herstorie,” held on May 15 and 16, 2024, was an extraordinary success, filled with enriching discussions and insightful explorations of Jewish women’s literary contributions. Led by Professor Urszula Chowaniec, a scholar from Lund University and Paideia – The European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden, this event captivated participants with its engaging and thought-provoking sessions.

Held at the inviting Cafe Bergson in Oświęcim, the event attracted a diverse audience eager to delve into the rich literary heritage of Jewish women writers. The sessions highlighted the complexity and diversity of Jewish identity, touching on themes of tolerance, exclusion, and cultural difference.

achievements of Jewish women, who often faced dual marginalisation. Using the Chavruta method facilitated interactive and meaningful discussions,
enriching the overall learning experience.

May 15, 2024 – Wednesday (Version A: University of the Third Age, 10:00-13:00)

  • 10:00-10:15 The event commenced with a warm welcome and introduction, setting the stage for a day of discovery and reflection.
  • 10:15-11:00 Session I delved into “Herstorie: Discovering Women’s Histories,” providing a profound understanding of women’s roles and stories often overlooked in history.
  • 11:00-11:15 A coffee break allowed participants to exchange initial thoughts and network.
  • 11:15-12:00 Session II focused on contemporary voices of Jewish women writers, featuring Celia Dropkin and Kadia Molodowski. The Chavruta method encouraged creative thinking and lively discussions.
  • 12:00-12:15 Another coffee break provided a brief respite and further opportunity for dialogue.
  • 12:15-13:00: Session III highlighted the contemporary voices of Fradl Shtok and Anna Margolin, again utilizing the Chavruta method to foster in-depth analysis and conversation.

 May 16th, 2024 – Thursday (Version B: Teachers, 15:00 -18:00)

  • 15:00-15:15 The second day began with an enthusiastic welcome and overview.
  • 15:15-16:00 Session I revisited “Herstorie: Discovering Women’s Histories,” engaging educators in uncovering the hidden narratives of women in history.
  • 16:00-16:15 A coffee break allowed for reflection and interaction among attendees.
  • 16:15-17:00 Session II explored the contemporary voices of Celia Dropkin and Kadia Molodowski, fostering dynamic discussions through the Chavruta method.
  • 17:00-17:15 A final coffee break provided a chance to gather thoughts and prepare for the last session.
  • 17:15-18:00 Session III concluded with an exploration of Fradl Shtok and Anna Margolin’s works, encouraging deep discussion and creative engagement through the Chavruta method.
